Job Search Chronicles - Part 2

Last Friday I completed Plum.io’s free online Talent Assessment.  You receive feedback immediately about your Top 3 Talents.  I learned that I had a talent that I wasn’t aware that I had!  You can access the Plum Talent Assessment here.

The following day I met up with a friend for a coffee at the mall.

I showed my Talents profile to my friend.

My friend was very encouraging.  He suggested that I could attach my Talents profile to my application when I apply for a job.

When you complete the Talent Assessment, Plum.io suggests that you could share your profile on social media.

I combined my friend’s and Plum.io’s ideas and came up with something that I haven’t done before.

I decided to send the following message and attach my Talents profile to select members of my LinkedIn network.

“I share my Talents Profile with you (via Plum.io) and let you know that I'm looking for a part-time role in HR or job search mentoring in Toronto!”
This message was a “touching base” e-mail.  I wanted to let my network know what I was doing and what I was looking for.

I wanted to encourage a conversation.  One of my friends wanted to know what Plum.io was.  Another friend wanted to know why I was sending this message.  A couple of friends told me that they will keep their eyes open for possible opportunities.

Lessons Learned

-So much of job searching is planting a seed.  I wanted to plant a seed and let friends know that I am looking for a job and what in particular I am looking for.  If they come across a job opening in the future that I might be suited for, perhaps they will think of me.

- It really is important to network.  If I hadn’t met up with my friend at the mall, I wouldn’t have been encouraged to share my Talents profile.  You gain new ideas when you talk to people.  You might even become inspired to try something new!

-I was impressed with the Plum Talent Assessment, because the 3 Talents that it identified for me is very accurate.   Plum.io has done a great thing to help job seekers to identify their talents.  Plum.io’s Talent Assessment tool may be helpful to employers in identifying qualified candidates quickly and in moving a recruitment process along a little faster!

All in all I had a good day today in my job search because I had an opportunity to network with friends on LinkedIn.
