Money, Money, Money

A LinkedIn post has value and is like a new kind of currency.

The process of writing a post allows you to use your creative skills, but when you finish your post, you now have a “product” that you can use to shop around with to different audiences:

1. Potential Employers. I am a current job seeker.  Many job ads ask for interpersonal skills.  I thought I might try something a little different in my cover letter, so I include a link to one of my posts called “What I’ve Learned About Building Relationships (Part 1).”  By making this post available to employers, I hope to demonstrate my relationship-building skills, writing and creative skills.

 2.  LinkedIn Buddies. We can offer value to our LinkedIn buddies (or “connections”) by forwarding an article that may be of interest to them.  For me, as well as forwarding an article, I take the liberty of forwarding the link to one of my posts, if I think a particular post of mine will be of interest to my buddy.  Forwarding a post of mine to a LinkedIn buddy is my way to engage with them, and, if I haven’t been in touch with my buddy for awhile, it gives me a reason to contact them.

I use a LinkedIn post of mine to engage in conversation with people I don’t know.  Just today (May 17, 2016), I read a post by Raghav Haran called “The Ultimate Guide to Building Your Network (without being sleazy).”  Mr. Haran’s post on networking (the social kind) reminded me of something that I wrote, and so to spark a conversation, I commented on his post and included a link to my post called “I’m Still Standing” and invited him to read it.

I like to give shout-out’s in my posts to strengthen my relationship with and provide support to people.  I like reading David Cohen’s LinkedIn blog.  He recently celebrated a milestone by publishing his 90th LinkedIn post called “How to accomplish the things you really want in life and business – easily.”   Congratulations, David on your milestone!

 3.  Offline Buddies. Some of my buddies aren’t on LinkedIn.  I have an aunt who isn’t on LinkedIn, so I send her an e-mail and include a link to one of my posts.  It’s a nice way to keep in touch with my aunt and she always provides encouraging comments!

To me, a LinkedIn post is a vehicle in which to engage with other LinkedIn users.  The LinkedIn platform allows us to engage with others by “liking”, commenting or sharing a post.  I think it bears repeating that I feel incredibly supported when you “like”, comment or share one of my posts.
So, THANK YOU!!!

By the way, I like ABBA (a band from the 70’s), and one of their songs is “Money, Money, Money”, which is appropriate as a title for this post.
